The holy month of Ramadan 2014 – Saudi Arabia

The ninth month of the Muslim year is the holy month of Ramadan. As an important part of their faith Muslims will observe the fast from dawn till dusk every day of the lunar month, and engage in prayer and seek nearness to Allah, before a final day of fasting at the festival of Eid al-Fitr.

Calendar Ramadan 2014 in Madinah

According to the western calendar, Ramadan will run this year from 28th of June to the 27th of July, though of course Muslims will actually start to celebrate this period during the sunset of Friday the 27th of June.

A prayer for Ramadan

Thanks to tourism initiatives there are more and more opportunities to perform Umrah rituals and achieve the proper spiritual goals, while also finding the time to appreciate the sights and attractions the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has to offer.

You may notice young men distributing small packages of food to drivers waiting at traffic lights, for the benefit of those who are late in breaking the fast. These small acts of kindness, combined with unusual experiences, such as the great pleasure of saying Taraweeh prayers for Ramadan in the presence of some imams gifted with extraordinarily good voices are just some of the enhanced Ramadan experiences in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this year.

Finally, when the holy month of Ramadan is over, on the first day of the month of Shawal, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the “festival of breaking the fast” or the “lesser Eid”, or even the “Sugar feast.” This is a time of great happiness all over the region, and it is a great pleasure to welcome the many guests who also spend this period of celebration right here at our hotel.
