Haramain High Speed Rail project | Saudi Arabia

This amazing high-speed rail project will amaze everyone who sets its eyes on it. If you haven’t heard about it yet, let us introduce the Haramain High Speed Rail project. The Al Haramain Railway will link Mecca and Madinah via King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh, Jeddah and the King Abdulaziz International Airport. Due to the linking between the cities, both of our hotels Al Murjan Beach and Resort and Dar al Taqwa, will be better accessible.

The construction of the Haramain High Speed Rail Project began in 2009 and was scheduled to open in 2012. However, the project has been delayed which means that it will be opened in phases. The link from Madinah to Rabigh is planned to open by the end of 2015. The total contract value of the project is 6.736 billion Euros (approximately US$9.4 billion).

As you can see on the image above, the Haramain High Speed Rail will have five stations:
– North Madinah
– King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh
– King Abdulaziz International Airport (Jeddah)
– Jeddah’s city center
– South Mecca

The volcanic ashes and desert rocks that lay between these cities won’t stop investors from developing high-tech Saudi infrastructure projects. The high-speed trains will provide passengers a comfortable and safe transport with a designed speed of 320 kilometres p/h. The total line length is nearly 450 kilometres. With these speeds, the journey between Mecca and Jeddah will take less than 30 minutes, while the journey between Medina and Jeddah will take about 2 hours. Since Saudi Arabia has a hot desert climate, everything is designed to handle temperatures differing from 0 °C (32 °F) to 50 °C (122 °F).

According to a study from the Ministry of Hajj, the number of Umrah performers is expected to increase to over 11 million and will keep increasing in with more than 3 million in the coming 25 years. Since these cities do not offer much in terms of public transport, this rail project will take the pressure away from the roads and prevent large traffic jams consisting of buses and taxis.

We have high hopes that the project will finish soon and that our guests will be able to reap the benefits. You can find more information on our hotels below:
